Hello from AustraliaHowdy Mate! Russell and I are working hard here at Moonah. The tournament starts tomorrow. It's a long,
links course with plenty of wind off the ocean, which is nearby. My practice rounds have been excellent and I am confident
I can play very well on this par 72, 7,400 plus yard course. (Russell has become a real expert at converting metric measurements
to feet and yards.) We're staying at the hotel right on the course at the Moonah Links Resort, so getting around is very
easy. For this tournament, I have added a Vokey 64 degree wedge. To stay within the 14 club rule, I am pulling my 3-iron.
I'm hitting my PING Rapture driver straight and far - averaging about 300.
Panama was
my first tournament as a rookie on the Nationwide Tour. I loved the people, the course, and the PGA shuttle system was fabulous.
I'll post some pictures soon. I wanted to do more than make the cut, so I played to win. The average rookie makes his
first cut on the 3rd or 4th try, so making my first cut on the first try was good! Again, I'm not just trying to make
cuts! I'm here to beat everyone! In Panama, chipping around the greens was the weakest part of my game. I've
worked really hard to improve. The ground in Panama reacts differently than U.S. soil, so I tended to overhit. I also am getting
more distance from my irons, so Russel and I worked really hard getting the yardages exactly measured for my PING irons before
leaving for Australia. I'm physically stronger and gaining more distance off the tee and fairways. Thanks to everyone
at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, my home course when I'm in Dallas. It's a first rate course for a pro or anyone. Russell
and I are keeping my tournament stats, but you can follow them and scoring at PGATOUR.COM. They wrote a profile from
a questionaire I filled out. My brother's cats, Walker and Ranger, made the website! Miss all my family, friends
and drinking Dr Pepper. No cell phone service down here, so it's email only from the players' computer room.
Blessings from down under, Martin P.S. Congrats to the Fightin' Texas Aggie Men's Golf Team and Coach
Higgins for their awesome win in Hawaii! It was one of my favorite trips last year!
